Sustainability Honors Society
Members of the Sustainability Honors Society are responsible for managing and carrying out all sustainability efforts on our campus as stewards of God's creation.
Members of the Sustainability Honors Society earn documented service hours for their work managing our recycling program and compost collection. In collaboration with our faculty, they also care for the plantings around the school and help manage our on-site beehive.
About Our Beehive
The hive was installed last spring and is professionally managed by Youth Bee Works, a nonprofit company focused on bringing awareness to the importance of honeybees by increasing hive ownership and by bringing educational programs to classrooms. This management will cost $2000 per year and includes all maintenance, honey extraction, and education services. This year, we have had 3 extractions harvesting about 14 quarts of honey. The loss of pollinators and their free services across the world has required farmers to hire pollination services, increasing costs to them and to the consumer.
Support the Society
Consider donating to the Aquinas Sustainability Society. With your donation, we would gift you with our inaugural honey harvest. It would make a great gift this holiday season!
8oz. for $50 and 16oz. for $100
