Theater

Performance and theater provide an opportunity for students at Aquinas Academy to engage with stories and ideas in a meaningful way, helping them to cultivate empathy, understanding, and a sense of shared humanity. Students start with small classroom performances in Lower School, then take the stage for fun, adventurous spring productions in Middle School, like Cinderella or Peter Pan. As they move into High School, the scope of our productions expands to include complex Shakespearean dramas, classic musicals, and contemporary hits, such as The Tempest, Anything Goes!, and High School Musical. Whether a student is an actor, artist, musician, or behind-the-scenes techie, our theater program provides a space for them to showcase their talents and work together to create something truly special.

Winners of a Shakespeare Competition

Pittsburgh Public Theater Shakespeare Monologue and Scene Contest

Students at Aquinas Academy may participate in the Pittsburgh Public Theater's Shakespeare Contest starting in fifth grade. To compete, students prepare a Shakespearean monologue or scene with the help of a faculty coach. Many of our students have competed and found success over the years, with many honorable mentions and finalists. In 2023, Aquinas Academy won the Rob Zellers Award for Excellence in Arts Education from the Pittsburgh Public Theater.
